HOW IT WORKS
A busy workday.
A record you can explain.
ArcLedger is a Windows desktop app for solo professionals managing client work alongside AI agents. It connects work signals to clients and projects, keeps your time separate from agent runtime, and gives you a record to review, explain and use for billing. Your agents keep running in their own tools; ArcLedger records what they report.
-
SET UP
Tell ArcLedger who the work is for.
Create your clients and projects, then connect their work sources: a watched folder or repository, a browser tab group through the paired extension, or a supported agent connection. Confirm which client each source belongs to, and set the hourly rates or agreed project price.
-
TRACK
Then get on with your work.
ArcLedger records routine activity from the sources you set up. Switch between projects while your connected agents keep working; ordinary context switches and approved agent streams don’t need a separate decision.
- Your attention. The application and window you’re focused on, and the titles of other open windows that match a rule you’ve set, are matched to a client on your computer. Raw window titles aren’t stored unless you turn one into a rule or label.
- Your agents. Connected agents report their runtime and status separately. Agent runtime is never counted as your time.
- Your project folders. ArcLedger can count changed files and git activity in folders you choose to watch, without storing file names, paths or contents.
- Anything uncertain, such as activity with no clear client, is held for your review instead of being billed silently.
-
REVIEW
Review what needs a decision.
Review brings uncertain activity together with its client, timing and supporting evidence. Assign, exclude, split or move it; your decisions stay in the history. Reviewed work can support comparisons with a documented project baseline. If the on-device AI model is available, ArcLedger can draft a client summary for you to check.
-
BILL
Review the statement before billing.
ArcLedger prepares a client statement from reviewed work. For hourly billing, overlapping activity within one project counts once. Your rate covers your attention, including time when agents work alongside you. Additional agent-only time uses the agent rate you set, which can be zero. Different projects are accounted for separately. Review and approve the work before billing; a statement is marked billed only when you mark it. Statement amounts are in US dollars.
On your computer.
Online only where it has to be.
Your clients, work history, review decisions and statements are stored on your computer, in ArcLedger’s local database. At startup, ArcLedger creates the day’s local database backup if needed. You can also export a backup to keep elsewhere. Backups stay local unless you choose to copy or share them. ArcLedger has no analytics telemetry.
Normal tracking doesn’t capture screenshots, screen recordings, page content, keystrokes or clipboard contents. Local Vision is a separate, optional feature. Only after your explicit consent, it captures one foreground image in memory, reads it with the on-device model, discards the pixels and keeps only sanitized text.
ArcLedger goes online in these cases:
- Managed on-device AI. On first launch it downloads pinned, checksum-verified runtime and model files from GitHub and Hugging Face, then runs them on your computer. The downloads send none of your work data. You can turn managed Local AI off in Settings.
- Evidence checkpoint. When you anchor the audit history or mark a statement billed, it sends one 32-byte hash, with no client names or business data, to public OpenTimestamps servers. You can turn this off.
- Pro subscription connection. A connected Pro computer contacts ArcanEdge’s subscription service to activate and refresh its licence about once a day. Connecting sends a random workspace identifier, a one-way hash of a new activation credential and the app version; refreshes send that credential, the identifier and the version. No client data is sent. Sign in to the account page with an email link. ArcLedger Free makes no subscription connection.
- Connections you choose. Optional source connections, such as signing in to a work tool, run only after you set them up.
You review the work.
You approve the bill.
- Tracking can miss or misclassify activity. Uncertain work waits for your review, and the final approval is yours.
- Human attention and agent runtime stay separate. Having several projects open does not multiply your billable human hours.
- Only you can approve a statement and mark it billed.
- Its records and evidence history help you explain a bill. They aren’t a legal guarantee, and ArcLedger doesn’t give legal, tax or accounting advice.
- It’s a single-person Windows desktop app. Your work data isn’t synced to a cloud, and there are no shared workspaces.
